ADVERSARIAL / PAROXSIHZEM – WARPIT OF COILING ATROCITIES LP (Iron Bonehead Productions)

Thursday, August 9th, 2018

Adversarial Paroxsihzem - Warpit of Coiling AtrocitiesIn a pitiful era of fad-following, hype-deepthroating dickheads there is simply no accounting for taste. Iron Bonehead released this short but spectacular split on vinyl format in January (the CD having emerged via Vault Of Dried Bones four years ago) and it is still widely available for a mere pittance while the lemmings get their needy knickers all twisted and stained over the latest strictly limited record that virtually everybody missed and probably isn’t that good anyhow and even if it is we will never fucking know.

Between them, Canadian cousins Adversarial and Paroxsihzem deliver 30 minutes or so of utterly stupendous Black / Death Metal on ‘Warpit Of Coiling Atrocities’ and it’s a release that I cannot recommend highly enough. If the usual suspects blighting the underground with their dubious presence were limiting and toying with access to music of this quality, then we really would have something to be crying about.

ADVERSARIAL – DEATH, ENDLESS NOTHING AND THE BLACK KNIFE OF NIHILISM LP (Dark Descent Records)

Saturday, September 12th, 2015

Adversarial - Death, Endless Nothing And The Black Knife Of NihilismIf there’s a better record released this year than Adversarial’s crushing sophomore, ‘Death, Endless Nothing And The Black Knife Of Nihilism’, then it will be a welcome surprise. Last week, I received shipment of a fine batch of new records but the rest of them have remained in their sleeves thus far as I’ve been devoting all my listening time to this monster.

An absorbing, pummelling journey into the murk, ‘DENATBKON’ is the latest stellar release in a burgeoning Death / Black hybrid world crafted by the likes of Portal, Antediluvian and Mitochondrion but growing in population. Many of these bands are finding their way onto Dark Descent, which makes things easy for us consumers.

The record comes with a booklet, including lyrics, which are also very good.

ANTEDILUVIAN / ADVERSARIAL – INITIATED IN IMPIETY AS MYSTERIES LP (Nuclear War Now!)

Thursday, August 8th, 2013

Adversarial AntediluvianShortly after ‘Through The Cervix Of Hawaah’, Antediluvian conspired with their compatriots Adversarial to deliver the exceptional split album that is ‘Initiated In Impiety As Mysteries’. The record contains only three songs from each band and boasts a running time of less than 28 minutes, yet it’s still one of the best split albums you’re ever likely to purchase.

The offerings from Antediluvian are every bit as amazing as we’ve come to expect from this awesome anti-music entity. Indeed, it might not be a stretch to suggest that ‘Force Of Suns Of Adversary’, ‘Dissolution Spires’ and ‘Ehyeh Asher Ehyeh (I Am That I Am)’ rank right up there with the very best material they’ve ever recorded (and, believe me, that’s saying something!)

I’m not otherwise familiar with Adversarial and I’m not sure what they normally sound like but here they give Antediluvian a real run for their money with a similar brand of guttural, lo-fi, inaccessible Death Metal disharmony. In many ways, this is almost like an Antediluvian MLP, so similar is the vibe and attitude on both sides.

Released last summer, ‘Initiated In Impiety As Mysteries’ is by no means a new LP but is still readily available and is well worth checking out.
