AZELISASSATH – TOTAL DESECRATION OF EXISTENCE LP (Nordisk Kultur)

Azelisassath - Total Desecration Of ExistenceAzelisassath’s third full-length, ‘Total Desecration Of Existence’, is more depressive content-wise than I recall the first two offerings (‘In Total Contempt of All Life’ and ‘Evil Manifestations Against Mankind’) being, but that’s not necessarily a bad thing.

The song titles and lyrics rather overtly deal with suicide, nihilism and self-annihilation, nothingness, death and all manner of uplifting eventualities. So much better than Trolldom; hard to believe it’s the same maniac. In fairness, most of Swartadauþuz’ work is exceptionally good.

The music is raw-ish but with an insidious sense of keyboard-driven melody and plenty of upbeat atmosphere. But still dark as the devil’s hole.

AZELISASSATH – IN TOTAL CONTEMPT OF ALL LIFE LP (Mordgrimm)

Azelisassath – In Total Contempt Of All LifeNot mad about the band name because I can’t spell it … and never will be able to. But not being able to pronounce Azelisassath isn’t a problem as I never discuss music with anybody face to face.  Read about it, write about it, think about it; never talk about it…

Anyhow, if you chanced upon my review of ‘Evil Manifestations Against Mankind’, then you’ll already know that I hold these Swedes in very high regard.

In Total Contempt Of All Life’ is actually their debut album (both full-lengths were released during the current calendar year) and, although it isn’t quite as magnificent as the follow-up, it nevertheless offers forth a pretty exceptional helping of supreme Black Metal art (six songs bookended by two instrumentals, running for 33 minutes in total).

The record comes with an insert (including lyrics) and poster, constituting a wonderful buy all around. If you’re a fan of underground Black Metal that’s grim, raw and true, Azelisassath is in many regards as good as it gets.

AZELISASSATH – EVIL MANIFESTATIONS AGAINST MANKIND LP (Darker Than Black Records)

Azelisassath - Evil Manifestations Against MankindSome albums arrive like a bolt from the fucking blue. Without neither warning, fanfare nor hype; like a bad dream. As do some reviews, I guess. Azelisassath’s second full-length ‘Evil Manifestations Against Mankind’ is one such record – a sudden, unprovoked proclamation of raw, grim and glorious depravity. A welcome kick in the balls.

What I know about this Swedish duo I could write on the back of a postage stamp – and still leave enough space for a few choice recipes. Obscure and flying so far off the radar that they’d put Malaysia Airlines to shame, Azelisassath crank out eight prime cuts of magnificent underground Black Metal in around 35 minutes.

It’s a joyous ride and one you ought to take.
